ROBINA TAKES ANOTHER STEP FORWARD

WITH CONTSTRUCTION OF NEW POLICE HEADQUARTERS

Construction of the new multi-million dollar Reedy Creek / Robina police station is soon to begin, with Police Minister Judy Spence today announcing that Carmichael Builders successfully tendered for the station.

Ms Spence said: “This $6 million police station, which includes the cost of the land and $3.8 million for the construction and fit out, will provide a massive boost to policing on the Gold Coast.

“Once completed, the 24-hour station will service one of the fastest growing regions in South East Queensland, including Reedy Creek, Robina, Varsity Lakes, Burleigh Waters and Andrews.

“In 2006, the Queensland Government made an election commitment to build this new facility, as part of our four year $260 million Queensland Police infrastructure program.

“I’m pleased to see we are delivering on that promise to secure community safety and bolster policing services in the area.”

The station, which will be located at 291 Scotsdale Drive Robina, is expected to be completed by mid-2009.

The new station will include a foyer and reception area with secure counter, administration area, two holding cells, electronic interview and witness quiet rooms, meals and conference room, staff amenities and separate dayrooms and offices.

Member for Mudgeeraba Dianne Reilly  and Member for Burleigh Christine Smith both welcomed the boost to policing in their local areas.

Ms Reilly said: “I know local residents and businesses will welcome the state-of-the-art facility. This is a fast growing area and the Bligh Government is working hard to make sure local police have the resources and infrastructure to keep crime down in our community.”

Mrs Smith said: “It’s a major boost for police in our area helping them to continue their hard work and ensuring our streets stay safe.”

Ms Spence said the new Reedy Creek/ Robina police station is just one of five major capital works projects in the Gold Coast and Logan area due for completion this year.

“This year’s budget delivered a record $142 million to build new police stations and upgrade existing ones across the State – a $40 million increase from last year.

“In the South Eastern Police Region, this includes more than $22 million to build a Reedy Creek / Robina police station, the new Coomera station, the refurbishment of Beenleigh station as well as a new police beat at Logan Village and a new station at Crestmead / Marsden.

“The Bligh Government will continue to work with local communities to ensure we provide the facilities and services they need for Tomorrow’s Queensland.”
